MOVING FORWARD Who we are
Moving forward is a new holistic one-to-one service aimed at helping young people make positive changes to their lives. We support young people to look at things more positively in order to build self-esteem, confidence and develop coping and resilience skills by giving them the opportunity to talk to a support worker who will listen without prejudice. Our goal is :
“to increase young people’s self awareness, providing them with the tools, techniques and skills to move forward in their lives”
Who we work with
Growing up can be a difficult and stressful time for many young people today, what with family conflict, social/peer pressure and exam stress. If you know a young person experiencing difficulties at home, in school in their local community, please refer to Clare Anderson, Support Worker on 01506-461588.
Moving Forward will work with young people with a wide range of issues aged 10-21years in West Lothian, who are willing to engage in the service. We will work with a young person flexibly to accommodate need and at a pace that they feel comfortable with.
Criteria for referral include:
Aged 10-21, within West Lothian
Low self-confidence/self-esteem
Emotional issues, e.g. Anxiety, depression, paranoia, etc.
Drug and alcohol problems
Aggressive or offending behaviour
Difficulties in engaging in mainstream activities and groups
Complex needs, e.g. homeless, mental health problems, etc.
Who can refer?
Referrals can come from West Lothian Youth Action Project services, e.g. Integr8, Early Intervention and Diversionary service, NRT, Alternative Curriculum, Active Steps, Street work, etc and statutory services such as Social Work, the Juvenile Liaison Officer (J.L.O.), Children’s Reporter, Children’s Rights Officer, the Mental Health Promotion Group and local Schools. Moving Forward recognises that it can be difficult for young people to engage in groups and will support them to move towards this point.
