YAP music was created in July 2003 within West Lothian Youth Action Project. The conception of YAP music was a direct response to the growing demands from bands and artistes in the West Lothian area who had no real platform in which to project their music. The aim of YAP music is to establish music as an alternative youth work medium and also to provide service to young people in their own environment, throughout West Lothian.

As part of the WLYAP summer programme development we teamed up with Sound Station Studios to offer a weeklong Summer Music Academy (24th – 28th July 2006).

The lucky individuals who signed up for the course where taken through tuition on their chosen instrument by industry professionals, they also took part in workshops covering rehearsals, improvisation, recording your own CD and performing to a live audience. They used high quality / professional rehearsal rooms and recording studio and performed at a fully equipped music venue.

The Yap Music Summer Academy was open to all young in the West Lothian Area between the ages of 12 and 21 yrs old who have their own instrument and was totally free.

The main tuition was on Guitar, Bass, Drums Vocals and DJ/Mixing.

The West Lothian Youth Action Project summer programme continued their support for young musicians in West Lothian. Yap Music’s 12:21 summer music academy got underway in August 2007 at the Sound Station Studios in Livingston.

The course which was busting at the seams with talent and enthusiasm proved a great success, checkout downloads of the music students recorded on the week long course.

Student were tutored on their chosen instruments and guided by industry professionals in all key areas of making music including; rehearsals, improvisation, recording and performing to a live audience.

12:21 Summer Music Academy 2008

I would like to say thanks on behalf of the Youth Action Project to all tutors who took part in the Summer Academies this year for their contribution during the academy weeks; their expertise and understanding were integral to the making of a successful experience for the young people involved. The performance was extremely well attended and turned into a celebration which was a great achievement for the students who took part.

Completed Arts Projects

North Livingston "Shelter" Project.
This project came about, with Scotrail, West Lothian Council Arts and Cultural Servicesand Artist Paul Gray. It was seen that the shelter at North Livingston Station was in much need of repair and brightening up. Local young people designed the panels for the new shelter. An exhibition of their work was shown at Howden Park Centre

Transitions
An exciting exhibition, involving young adults within West Lothian and their exploration of multi-media.
In partnership with: Having Your Say, West Lothian Social Inclusion Partnership, Arts & Cultural Services, West Lothian Youth Theatre, West Lothian Youth Action Project, Cyrenians West Lothian, The Scottish Arts Council and Photographer Kenny bean. Shown at Howden Park Centre.
