Assess and Connect Team (Youth Action Project)

P/T Support Worker

 

Part Time:             18hrs per week

 

Salary Scale:         £28,981 (pro rata) (funded for two years)

 

Accountable to:    WLYAP Project Director and Team Manger-Assess and Connect Team.                    

 

ACT is one of the projects funded through the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund, money provided to local authorities from the Scottish Government.

 

Role of the service:

The primary goal of ACT is to disrupt patterns of concern (antisocial behaviour and /or exploitation), enhancing the existing Early and Effective Intervention provision.

The service will accept referrals from young people, parent/carers, education, C&F Duty Social Work, Community Safety Partnership, and the 3rd Sector.

 

Job Purpose:

  • The post holder will work as part of a small multi agency team including staff from Youth Justice, Youth Action Project, and Action for Children.

  • The part time worker will deliver 1-1 interventions for a 3-to-6-month period, supporting young people from coming into conflict with the law, to prevent involvement in criminality and reduce risk of harm or exploitation.

  • Worker will provide information and strategies to manage conflict, improvement of family and peer relationships. Support to access education/training and employment, advice on substance misuse, health, and ways to manage leisure time more effectively will also be provided.

  • Development of group work programmes where appropriate and inclusion of contextual safeguarding workshops.

 

 

Hours of work:

  • Part time – 18 hours per week (2.5 days per week), flexible but will include some evening and weekend work.

 

Key tasks:

  • To offer home visits and support to families and young people experiencing challenges impacting on their daily lives at times suitable to them.

  • 1-1 interventions with young people aged 10-16 years, a number of techniques and approaches will be used to create a person centre plan to reduce risk taking behaviour, encouraging them to engage with a range of services to improve their current situations.

  • To carry out joint supervised visits with Team members.

  • To make appropriate referrals to specialised agencies if (for example) Child protection issues are identified.

  • Completion of daily session recordings, sharing of information with partners in accordance with data sharing protocols and GDPR.

  • Attendance at appropriate meetings and training sessions.

 

Outputs and Outcomes will be set by the Alliance Hub, Management Group overseeing the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund Projects.

Examples Below:

  • No of young people referred to the service, gender, age, and ethnicity.

  • No of young people already charged for an offence.

  • No of young people known to be using substances.

  • No of young people not having been referred to SCRA or served with a court appearance in the past 6 months.

  • Reduction of risk-taking behaviour.

  • Improved family relationships.

  • No longer requiring supervised visits.

  • Improved level of well-being.

​​Person Specification 

 

 

Qualifications/ Experience: 

​The post holder will hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Youth Work/ Community Learning & Development, Health, or related field. 

Significant and relevant experience in the field of youth, community, or justice work.  

​

Skills: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to develop positive relationships and interventions that are goal orientated, and solution focused. 

  • Excellent organisational skills 

  • Ability to undertaking risk assessments 

  • Experience of record keeping monitoring and evaluation processes. 

  • Proficiency in IT and data management systems. 

  • To be an effective contributor and work as part of a team, attend team meetings and any relevant planning/reviews, support and supervision sessions.    

  • To undertake any relevant training and professional development opportunities available. 

  • Competencies/ Knowledge 

  • Demonstrate commitment to equal opportunities.

Required: 

  • The post holder will be subject to satisfactory references and PVG check. 

  • Willingness to work flexible hours – some evening and occasional weekend work required. 

  • Hold clean current UK driving licence for at least 3 years  

  • Hold a UK passport. 

  • To undertake any relevant training and professional development opportunities available.
